ESDM Model & Research
In 2010, the ESDM was named "top 10 medical interventions" by Time Magazine
The ESDM is a relationship-based intervention that combines both developmental principles and
behavioral techniques into one comprehensive program. The ESDM targets all areas of a child’s
development, with an explicit focus on early foundational skills needed for social interaction and
communication (the main challenges in Autism). The goal of the ESDM is to bring children with
Autism back into the social world to increase their rate of social learning.
"Costs associated with ESDM treatment were fully offset within a few years after the intervention because of reductions in other service use and associated costs" - Research study by Cidav, et al., (2017)
